Digital Presentation Notes (LibreOffice Impress)-Class 9

 Digital Presentation: Digital Presentation is a visual method of presenting information using digital tools such as computer, projectors, or presentation software. It includes slides , images , text, charts, audio, and videos to explain a topic clearly.  Some popular digital presentation applications are Libre Office Impress, Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides , etc.

Characteristics of an Effective Presentation:

  1.  Relevant and Clear Content: The ideas should match the main topic and objective. Content must be meaningful and easy to understand.
  2. Attractive Opening: The Presentation should begin in an engaging way such as with a question, fact, short video. or example. Objectives should be clearly stated at the beginning.
  3. Proper Organization: The topics should be arranged in a logical sequence (Introduction- Body-Conclusion) to avoid confusion. 
  4. Short and Concise Points: Use bullet points instead of long paragraphs include suitable images, charts, and infographics to support the content.
  5. Good Communication Skills: The presenter should speak clearly, maintain eye contact, and use confident body language with a positive tone.
  6.  Audience Involvement : The Presentation should connect with the audience and encourage interaction.
  7. Proper Planning and Practice: The presentation should be well-designed, rehearsed and prepared for possible questions.
LibreOffice Impress: LibreOffice Impress is a presentation software used to create slideshows. It is a part of the LibreOffice suite and is free and open-source software. The default file extension is .odp (Open Document Presentation )
Features of LibreOffice Impress: 
  1. Multimedia Support: It allows users to Add text, images, audio, video, charts, and animations to make presentation attractive and informative.
  2. Templates: It provides a library of ready-made templates and themes to design professional-looking slides easily.
  3. Slide Layouts: Various slide layouts help users arrange content in an organized and clear manner.
  4. Animation and Transitions: Users can apply animation effects to objects and transition effects between slides to make the presentation more engaging. 
  5. Multiple Slide Views: Different slide views (like Normal view and slide sorter view) help in editing and managing slides efficiently. 
  6. Rehearsal Timing: Users can record slide timings during rehearsal to improve presentations delivery. 
Templates in Presentation : A templates is a pre-designed slide layout that includes background, colors, font, and formatting. It helps users create professional and attractive presentation quickly.
Create a Presentation Using Templates :                                                                                                  
  • Open LibreOffice Impress.
  • Select a suitable template from the template gallery.
  • Choose the required slide layout.
  • Add text, images, and other multimedia content.
  • Apply animations and transitions if needed. 
  • Save the Presentation in .odp format or PDF.
Running a Presentation :
Running a presentation means starting the slide show to displays slides on the full screen for the audience.
Steps to slide show are:
  • Click on Slide Show menu.
  • Select Start from First Slide
  • or Press F5 key to start the slide show.
  • Use arrow key or mouse to move to the next slide.
  • Press Esc key to end the presentation.
Slide Layouts: A slide layout is the arrangement or structure of elements like title, text, images, charts, and other objects on a slide.
Types of Slide Layouts:
  1. Blank : This slide is completely empty.
  2. Title Slide: This layout has : one placeholder for title and one placeholder for subtitle or text.
  3. Title, Content: This layout has: one placeholder for title and one placeholder for content.
  4. Title, 2 Content: This layout has : one placeholder for title and two placeholders for content.
  5. Title Only: This layout has only one placeholder for title.
  6. Centered Text: This layout has one placeholder for center aligned text.
Adding a New Slides: 
Step1: Click slide in the Menu Bar.
Step 2: Click New Slide.
                  or Press CTRL+M
Duplicating a Slide: Duplicating a slide means making an exact copy of an existing slide in a presentation.  
steps to Duplicate a Slide:
step1: Select the slide you want to copy.
step 2: Right-click on the slide.
step3: Click Duplicate slide.

Viewing  a Slide show:
Viewing a Slide show means displaying the presentation full screen so that the audience can see all the slides one by one.
Important Options in Slide Show Settings:
1. Range: It decides which slides will be shown.
Examples: All slides- shows the entire presentation.
From slide- To slide-shows selected slides only.
 
2. Type: It decides how the presentations will run.
Full Screen- Presentation covers the whole screen
Window Mode- Presentation runs in a window.
3. Options : These options control different features like: 
  • Mouse pointer visibility 
  • Automatic slide changes
  • Looping the presentation
Significance of Custom Slide Shows: Custom Slide Show allows you to select and present only specific slides from a presentation according to your needs.
Steps to Create a Custom Slide Show :
Step1: Click on the Slide Show menu
Step2: Select Custom Slide Show.
Step 3: Click New and give a name to the custom slide show.
Step4: Select the slides we want to include and click ok to save it.

Presentation Views: Presentation views are different modes used to display and work with slides in a presentations.
Types of Presentation Views:
  1. Normal View: Normal view is the default view used to create and edit slides in a presentation.
  2. Slide Sorter View: Slide Sorter view displays all slides as small thumbnails and allows the user to rearrange them easily.
  3. Notes View: Notes View allows the presenter to add notes to explain the slide during the presentations.
  4. Outline View: Outline View shows the titles and main text of slides in an outline format.
Animations : Animation is a visual effect applied to text or objects on a slide to make them move or appear during a presentation. It makes the presentation more attractive and helps the audience focus on important points.
Types of Animations:
1. Entrance Animation: Entrance Animation is a type of animation that controls how an object appears on a slide during a presentation. 
Example: Fade, Fly In, Zoom, Bounce, etc.
2. Emphasis animation: Emphasis animation is an effect used to highlight an object already present on the slide.
Examples: Spin, Grow/Shrink, Pulse, Change Color
3. Exit Animation: Exit Animation effect is used to control how an object disappears from a slide during a presentation. It makes text , pictures , or shapes leave the slide in a special way.
Example: Fade Out, Fly Out, Disappear, Spin Out
4. Motion Paths: Motion Paths Animation is an animation effect that moves an object from one position to another on a slide along a specific path. It allows text, pictures, or shapes to follow a line, curve, circle, or any custom path during the presentation. 
Examples: Line , Curve, Circle, Custom Path

How to apply Animations:
Step1: Select the text or object on the slide.
Step 2: Click on the Animation tab.
Step 3: Choose an animation effect (such as Fade, Fly In, Zoom)
Step 4: Set the timing and order of the animation. 
Main timing options: 
Start: When the animation begins (on Click, With Previous, After Period)
Duration: How long the animation lasts
Delay: Waiting time before the animation starts.

Slide Master View: Slide Master View is a special view used to control the overall design , formatting, and layout of all slides in a presentation. Any changes made in the Slide Master are automatically applied to all slides in the presentation. 
Creating a Slide Master : Creating a Slide Master means making a master design that will be applied to all slides in the presentation.
Steps to Create a Slide Master
Step 1: Open the presentation in Impress
Step 2: Click on the View menu.
Step 3: Select Slide Master
Step 4: Now make changes like background, font style, colors or logo.
Step 5: Click Close Master View to return to normal slides.

Slide Transition : Slide Transition is the visual effect that occurs when one slide changes to the next slide during a presentation. It makes the presentation smooth and attractive when moving from one slide to another. 
Example of Slide Transitions: (Fade, Wipe, Push)

Ans: Presentation modes are the different ways in which a presentation can be displayed during a slide show. Example: (Full Screen Mode, Window Mode, Presenter Mode)
2.. What is the significance of tables?
Ans: Tables are used to organize information in rows and columns so that data can be presented clearly and neatly. 
3. What are the three images modes?
Ans: Images modes change the appearance or color style of a picture in a slide. 
the three image modes are Standard , Grayscale Mode, and Black & White.
